Emergency entrance rerouted at medical center

A new route to the emergency room at Greene County Medical Center went into effect April 8. (Click on map to enlarge it in new screen.)

ER EntranceThe medical center’s  major expansion project east of the current building will begin in earnest the week of April 7.  In the next several months, the public health wing on the east will be demolished, parking lots will be removed, grading will occur and construction on a new 51,000 square foot building will be done.  This new building portion will be the new location of most outpatient services, surgery, inpatient care and emergency access.

This expansion requires a fence to be placed around a large area of the east portion of the medical center’s campus and includes blocking the current emergency driveway.  The fence, which will be installed on April 8 and 9, requires an entry change for anyone traveling to the emergency department.  The new route will have vehicles going to the ER off of West Lincolnway and around the west side of the medical center campus.

Significant signage is being installed to signify the new route.  Reaching the emergency room is a high priority and this temporary route change will be an adjustment, but the long term change will be worth it.  When this expansion portion of the project is complete, ER will be just off Grimmell Road on the northeast corner of the medical center campus.  Access will be a significant improvement from the current situation.
